Gordon Ray Steele, age 74, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. Born on August 5, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia, Gordon was the beloved son of the late Henry P. and Sara Frances Steele. He lived a full life marked by hard work, generosity, creativity, and a deep love for family, friends, and community.
Gordon proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in his younger years. He dedicated over 25 years of his life to the construction industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and pride in a job well done. Through long days and demanding projects, he built not only structures but also lasting relationships with coworkers who respected his skill and integrity. After retiring, Gordon embraced life at a slower pace while continuing to stay active and engaged in the things he loved most.
An outdoorsman at heart, Gordon found joy in nature. He loved hunting and fishing, spending peaceful hours on the water boating, and tending to his gardens with care and patience. These quiet moments brought him great contentment and reflected his appreciation for simple, meaningful pleasures.
One of Gordon’s greatest passions was cooking. He delighted in preparing meals for his family and friends and was especially proud to volunteer his time and talents cooking at church. Known affectionately as “the creative cook,” Gordon poured his heart and soul into every dish he made. His food was more than nourishment—it was an expression of love, generosity, and joy that brought people together.
Gordon will be remembered for his warmth, dedication, and the many ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in shared meals, cherished memories, and the love he so freely gave.
He is preceded in death by Phyllis Steele.
Gordon leaves behind his son, Jeremy (Destiny) Steele; siblings, Catherine (Charles) Sewell, Paul (Ramona) Steele, Pricilla (Ron) Mims, and Nancy (Jess) McCullough; grandchildren, London Steele, Lauren Steele, Kali Steele, Kye Steele and extended family members and friends to honor his legacy.
