Hazel Daley was born on April 21, 1938, in Moreland Hill, Westmoreland, Jamaica. She lived a full life, spanning 87 years. Her parents were Noel George Jackson and Jemima Elizabeth Drummond. She was a graduate of Rochford General Nursing School with a diploma in General Nursing, after immigrating to England in her early adult life. She later immigrated from England to Canada in the 1960’s, where after not too long a time, she found residency in Detroit, Michigan, working as an RN. Not to let moss collect under her feet, she decided to migrate again to NYC, where she spent 37 years as an OBGYN nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital, where she retired in 2004.
Throughout her long-life journey, Hazel’s gifts to humanity were immense. Whether it was advice, a place to stay, someone to rely on, a home cooked meal, she was always ready, willing, and able to help pull people to their full potential. She was an outstanding woman, who with her husband, Alford “Uncle John” Daley, will forever be cherished in our hearts.
Hazel leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth Maharajh. She also leaves behind her siblings Keith Hall, Eloine Hall-Fenton, Clarence Rowe, Florette Rowe, Lorna Shepherd, Tony Gayle, and Pearl Jackson. Hazel also leaves behind her beloved cousin Nurline Vaccianna, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and family members. Her cousin Cherry King brought comfort in her last months, as well as her niece Violet Reid, and nephew Omar Reid, as well as Jackie Hall-Palmer.
Hazel was called home to the Good Lord in Heaven on December 20, 2025. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Memories of her kindness, smile, spirit, and life force will forever warm our hearts.
