On April 9, 2016, the angels came to escort our beloved, Jackie Chambers, to her new home with her Heavenly Father. Jackie was born on October 19, 1930 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Col. Ernest Finley Hornesby of Elgin, S.C. & Jessie Zelma Roberson Hornesby of Turbeville, S.C. Throughout her primary and secondary school years, she traveled extensively with her military family. After marrying her lifelong love and surviving husband, Leon Eugene Chambers, Sr., they moved to Atlanta, GA, then several homes in Cobb County and their final residence in Marietta, GA, where they have remained for the last 44 years. Jackie was a proud, devoted and loving wife and mother. She always made her family her top priority, from the moment she became a wife and throughout the births of her surviving four children: Brenda Joyce Brown (Donnie), Dallas, GA.; Cheri Diane Jowett (Andrew), Lilburn, GA.; Leon Eugene “Gene” Chambers, Jr. (Paula), Cumming, GA. and Stephanie Elise Chambers (Pam), Kennesaw, GA.; fourteen grandchildren: Niki Brown Hinton of Kennesaw, GA.; Kris Brown, Dalton, GA.; Julian Andrew Jowett, UK; Claire Louise Jowett, UK; Ashlea Liebowitz Kelly, Dallas, GA.; Ryan Liebowitz, Athens, GA; Zack Stringer, Duluth, GA.; Brent Stringer, Brookhaven, GA; Chad Chambers, Cumming, GA; Brittany Chambers, Cumming, GA; Lavar Harris, San Antonio, TX; Taylor Dove and, Hayley Dove, Kennesaw, GA; Sean Santos, Kennesaw, GA.; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Brelyn & Grayson White; Evie & Jensen Jowett; Madisen, Rori & Max Kelly; Anna & Jacob Liebowitz; Saffy Boggs, Autumn & Jaeden Stringer; Callie Berry. She is also survived by her three sisters: Mary Carolyn Boyd, Enterprise, AL; Jewel “Anne” Annis VanMansfeld, Tampa, FL and Patricia Eloise Bryant, Valdosta, GA. and numerous nieces & nephews.
Jackie never stopped giving to her family up to the time of her passing. She not only loved them unconditionally, but was dedicated to them her entire life. She was a long time member of Mt. Bethel UMC in Marietta, GA. Jackie was the epitome of what all would call a ‘perfect homemaker’, ‘loving’ mother, ‘dear friend’ and ‘wonderful’ volunteer…dedicating her entire life to her family, friends and community. She will be truly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN or Mt. Bethel UMC, Marietta, GA.
