James was given many loving nicknames from friends and family, but was best known as Jim. Jim was born in Auburn, Alabama on September 18, 1939 to A. L. Lazenby and Mamie Thompson Lazenby. One of seven children, his love for his family has been a constant source of joy. He often told stories and discussed his treasured memories with his siblings and his love for his childhood home.
He graduated from Beauregard High School and served in the U.S. Army earning the rank of Sergeant. He graduated from Auburn University and was a loyal and enthusiastic Alumni. He spent most of his professional career working for Shell Oil until his retirement in 1998 and has been known to love talking about the Shell station he went to and the price per gallon each day.
Jim, kept his yard so well maintained, never allowed a blade of grass to be out of place or a leaf to come to rest on his property. The highlight of the yard were his hydrangeas and his pine straw was legendary.
Jim was happiest spending time with his family and friends, who he cared about deeply and made everyone who knew him feel loved. Jim’s greatest love was his wife Ginger; he was a kind and loving partner for fifty-five years. Jim’s greatest accomplishment was being a father. He has been there for both Lauren and Matthew through all of life’s ups and downs. He consistently showed his support and love for them and is truly their greatest fan. As adults, they both see him as a hero, teacher and friend. He enjoyed each moment life had to offer, appreciated even the smallest interactions with people and truly treated everyone with kindness and respect.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Lazenby, Sr.; brothers, Warren Lazenby, A.L. Lazenby Jr. and Dr. William Lazenby; and sister, Carolyn Lazenby Laray.
He is survived by spouse, Virginia Martin Lazenby; daughter, Lauren Lazenby (Brian Garrett) and son, Matthew Lazenby (Smara Iglesia); brother, Harry Lazenby (Jamie); sister, Mary Slaton and many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends to cherish his memory.
