

James Aldon Nichols, born February 18, 1947 in Ringgold, Georgia and passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025 in Canton, Georgia at the age of 78. A beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend, James lived a life defined by integrity, curiosity, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family.
He was the cherished son of Fred Aldon Nichols and Doris Marie Rollins, and the eldest of four children. James was a devoted brother to his late sister, Mary Belle Nichols (1948–1963), and to his twin brothers, Samuel Wiley Nichols and Daniel Wesley Nichols.
A graduate of Ringgold High School, Class of 1965, James earned his undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University, a Master of Accountancy from Georgia State University, and later his law degree (JD) from the same institution. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar Association in 1992.
Over the course of his distinguished and multifaceted career, he served as a student, teacher, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), attorney, Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and farmer. He was a lifelong learner and a man of deep faith, strong intellect, and humility.
While teaching at Dekalb Junior College, James met Cherie Ann Mauney, the woman who would become the love of his life. They were married on October 1, 1988, and shared more than 36 years of enduring love, partnership, and devotion.
James lovingly embraced Cherie’s children as his own. He is survived by Tammy, and her husband Jim (Eckstein), along with their four sons—August, Gabriel, Joseph, and Samuel; and by Brian, and his two daughters—Maddie and Marissa. James was a proud and devoted grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and took great joy in watching them grow.
He is also survived by his twin brothers, Sam and Dan, and by extended family and friends who will remember him for his wisdom, friendship and service to others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Doris, and his sister, Mary Belle.
A funeral and burial service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Georgia Memorial Park (Dignity Memorial) in Marietta, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
