James Speer

James Lamar Speer, age 80, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023. He was born in 1943 to the late Elton and Ruth Speer. He graduated from West Fulton High School and he was employed with Ford Motor Company. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, the beach, and loved time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. James was lovingly known as "The Man" and would "tinker" in order that he might find a solution to fix, mend or correct most anything. He was firm but loving, strong willed and had a determination to assure that his family would be provided for, working two jobs if needed in order that they lacked nothing. James enjoyed the Wall Street Journal, keeping abreast of the ups and downs of Wall Street.

In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by his younger brother, Kenneth Michael Speer. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Speer; son, Andy Speer; daughters, Sandy Archey and Lisa Wilkerson, one granddaughter, six grandsons and 2 great granddaughters.

A visitation for James will be held Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road Ne, Marietta, GA 30068. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested considering a donation in his memory to the American Kidney Fund.
