Jewel Blakely Buck, age 96, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on July 16, 2019. She was born in 1922 in Jackson, Tennessee to C.C. & Minnie Blakely. Jewel’s Christian faith was a guiding force not only in her life but in the lives of those around her. A devote Baptist, she was active in her faith first at Second Baptist Church in College Park and later in Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta. She loved her family, enjoyed traveling, and had a spirit of adventure. A wonderful cook, her husband remarked after each meal, “that was the best meal I’ve ever had!”
Jewel is preceded in her death by her parents; sister, Alpha; brother, Brodey; and half-brothers, Gordon and Leonard. She is survived by her loving husband, Arvel; son, Arvel (Sara) Buck; daughter, Sharon (Ted) Johnson; grandchildren, Ray (Erin) Buck, Beth (Russ) O’Neal, Jeff (Kim) Johnson, Steve (Erin) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Annika, Natalya, Caleb, Blakely, John, Carmon, Christopher, David, Matthew, Ryan, and Katie; and two half-sisters, Carolyn and Shirley.
The family will receive friends for visitation between the hours of 10:00am and 12:00pm on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at H.M. Patterson & Son – Canton Hill Chapel. Her funeral service will follow at 12:00pm in the Chapel. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in College Park.
