

Karen Burns Blakey “Bama” to her grandchildren” passed away February 1st, 2017. She was born in Charleston, WV, on July 10th, 1948 to Annabel and L.L. Burns. She was educated at Chatham Hall and Hollins college both located in VA. She moved to Atlanta in 1970 where she met her husband of 45 years, Paul Blakey. Together they raised two daughters, Ryan and Beth. Karen started working at Northside Reality in 1983 and continued her career as a sales associate for over 30 years. She is survived by her husband, Paul Blakey, daughters Ryan Blankenship and husband Danny of Atlanta, GA, Elizabeth Blakey Gato and husband Isaiah Gato of Charleston, SC, granddaughter Avery Blankenship, grandsons Andrew Laiz, Jonah Gato and Asher Gato, sister Emily Legg of Lewisburg, WV, many cousins and friends. Karen enjoyed many outdoor activities. She was active in ALTA for many years, enjoyed hiking, gardening and loved football, especially WVU. She was a member of St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church and was involved in many charitable programs. At her request there will be no service locally. A family graveside service and memorial will be held at a later date in Lewisburg, WV. In lieu of flowers, family asks that memorial donations be made to Autism Speaks or the charity of your choice.
