She is survived by her husband Dennis Melstrom, son Mark Melstrom and his wife Leah, daughter Jana McClendon and her husband Sam, and three beautiful grandchildren Joe Melstrom and his wife Stephanie, Kristina Oldeen and her husband David, and Samantha McClendon.
Dennis and Loretta met at Colby High School in Colby, Kansas where she enjoyed playing the flute and was a member of the Colby High School Cheerleading Squad. They graduated in 1958 and were married on August 1, 1959 (for almost 56 years!). Immediately after their wedding reception, they left for California. In 1985 they moved to Georgia. In the years they spent together, Loretta’s passion for her family showed through her dedication to her children. She was an active participant in their hobbies and activities (Webelos, Scouts, sports and school activities).
She enjoyed camping, boating, tennis and traveling the country in her motorhome. She loved to entertain and, in the words of her grandson, threw one hell of a party. Dennis and Loretta did it right, eventually spending winters in the warm Arizona desert and summers in the cool mountains of Ridgway, CO. However, she always returned home for Christmas with her family in Georgia.
Loretta was incredibly loved and will be missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 10:00 am in the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with Pastor Banks Brazell officiating. Interment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 6-8:00 pm.
