Michael Chalupka

Michael Chalupka, age 91, went to be with the Lord on October 27th, 2014, in Marietta, GA. Beloved husband of Margaret for 68 years; loving father of Evelyn Piehl (husband Ken); cherished grandfather of Jason Piehl (wife Kate) and Jennifer Laing (husband Mark); dearest great-grandfather of Alexandra and Sebastian Laing, and Audrey Piehl; dear brother of Mary Moncol (husband Ivan), Paul Chalupka (wife Lizetta), and Anna Chalupka (all deceased); fond uncle of Pat and Sally Moncol, Michael Chalupka (wife Dixie), Gerald Chalupka (wife Mary Joyce), and Daniel Chalupka (deceased). Michael was born in Sharon, PA, on January 22, 1923. He was raised in Poprad, Czechoslovakia, met and married his wife Margaret in Kremnica, then returned to the U.S. after WWII. They settled in Cleveland, Ohio, later moved to Parma, where they lived for 57 years, moving to Marietta, GA in 2014. Michael was a barber for over 50 years at the Statler Hotel in downtown Cleveland, retiring in 1998 at the age of 75. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, and swimming together with his wife Margaret, as well as snow skiing and ice skating in his younger years. They attended Dr. Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, Ohio for many years. A funeral service will be held on November 1st at 11:00a.m., at Mallchok Funeral Home, 5660 Ridge Road, Parma, Ohio, with Pastor David W. Bennett officiating. Interment will follow after the service at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends between the hours of 10:00a.m. and 11:00. As expressions of sympathy, the family asks in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to Dr. Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4470 Ridge Road, Brooklyn, Ohio 44144.
