

Michael David Laforest, born in Fort Benning, Georgia on October 26, 1949, passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 76 in Tucker, Georgia. He grew up in Columbus, Georgia where he attended Jordan High School. Mike was a resident of Tucker, Georgia for nearly 30 years. Before his eight-year battle with cancer, Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He was a skilled whitewater kayaker (and a qualified Swiftwater Rescue Technician) who also enjoyed bicycle trail riding with friends. Mike was very musical; he had learned trumpet and drum in his youth and continued to play drums throughout a good portion of his life. He was a fan of thriller novels and frequented his local library often. He had been a certified scuba diver and had an extensive collection of antique bottles and jars; some collected on his dives. He learned to scuba dive when stationed in Bermuda while in the Seabees for four years. His career thereafter lay in craftsmanship. He was a talented carpenter and home remodeler, with attention to detail and a love of woodworking leaving their mark.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents Robert (David) LaForest (sic) and Margaret LaForest, and brother Gordon (John) LaForest. He is survived by his sister, Renée Hackett of Marietta, and daughter, Anna Michelle Cunningham of Hampton, Georgia.
