Pat was born on November 19, 1937 and was raised in Augusta, Georgia, daughter of the late Clinton David (C.D.) Hughes and Lavada Peavy Hughes. She had two younger sisters, Linda and Amanda, who were also her life-long friends.
After graduation from high school at Augusta’s Richmond Academy, Pat attended junior college and then the University of Georgia, majoring in early childhood education. She married the love of her life, Charles Brigham, in 1959, and they started their family soon after, with son David and daughter Laura. As the family moved from Atlanta to Louisville, then to Jacksonville, and back to the Atlanta area, Pat was a devoted and loving wife and mother.
Pat loved spending time with friends and volunteering. She was a docent at The Youth Museum in Cobb County for many years. She also taught Sunday School for much of her adult life, touching the lives of hundreds of children through her faithful witness. In her later years, prior to her illness, she taught Vacation Bible School to kids in Costa Rica on short-term mission trips.
Pat and Charles were faithful Georgia Tech fans and held season tickets to their football and basketball games for more than 20 years. The two of them also enjoyed playing golf regularly, and spending time at their vacation home at Lake Oconee.
Pat adored her three grandchildren, and she was an active part of their lives as they grew up nearby. “Mamom,” as they called her, always had inventive craft projects for them to work on, games to play, or stories to tell.
Pat is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles W. Brigham of Marietta, her son, W. David Brigham (Deborah); her grandchildren, Nathaniel Brigham, Sarah Sax (Chris), and Benjamin Brigham, two great-grandchildren, Skylar and Savannah Sax, and extended family. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, and her daughter.
The Brigham family would like to thank Maria, who cared for Pat with love and determination for the last two years. We are also grateful for Vernita, Casey and Kim, who were added to Pat’s caregiver team in 2025 and provided care and compassion. Finally, we are appreciative of Trinity Hospice of Georgia, who provided so much support to our family for over two years. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Hospice.
Burial will be at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA, with a graveside service for family. A celebration of Pat's life with a gathering of family and friends in Marietta will be scheduled in the near future.
