

Raymond Eugene Shaw passed away at his home surrounded by his family in Canton Ga on July 11, 2023. He left a legacy that will endure long beyond his years through his family that he loved and cared for so deeply. He always stood for what was right even if it meant he would not gain from it. He embodied character and always put others above himself. Ray was born in Atlanta Ga. He grew up in Marietta Ga and attended Osborne High School. He joined the Army in 1965 and served honorably until 1969. Ray married the love of his life Donna Hicks Shaw June 7, 1969 and resided in Smyrna and Marietta Ga the majority of his life.Ray was a realtor with his wife at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta and loved the real estate business and being a partner in business with his love Donna. A family man, he loved to fish, golf and spending his time at the beach with his family. His conversations about his family were never short, nor was it not evident that he loved his family. Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna Hicks Shaw, his son Jason Shaw and his wife Joy Shaw. His daughter Robin Sue Leroy, 5 grandchildren, Joshua Matthew Shaw, and his wife Katie Shaw, Carleigh Alyssa Prendergast and her husband Devon Prendergrast, Savannah Grace Leroy, Austin Heath Henley, and Kip Jackson Henley, 1 great grandchild Georgia Rae Shaw and another great grandchild on the way Sadie Kate Shaw. His sisters Glenda Murray and her husband Jessie Murray, Kay Zito and her husband Ed Zito, his brother Keith Newton, and his wife Janet Newton, Mike McWhorter who was Ray's best friend who he loved like a brother and Jerry Land, who served with Ray in the Army and was his lifelong friend since they enlisted in 1964, and preceded in death by his brother Larry Shaw. his mother Frankie Newton and father Johnnie Newton, and his grandmother Floy Fanny Ray and Wanda May, his cousin that he took care of for his entire adult life, due to her disability. It truly symbolized the type of man he truly was, and he will be missed terribly.
The family will have a Celebration of Life , on Friday July 14th, 2023, at The Chestnut Hills Clubhouse, 5184 Lupine Lane NW, Acworth, Georgia, 30102 from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm. All attendees are asked to dress casually for the event, because Ray hated the thought of dressing up and didn't want anyone dressed up for this. Shorts and shirts are fine, or whatever is comfortable. That was the way he would want it.
