Richard, 76, was the son of William Wesley Daniels and Ruth Helena Marie Scheuch Daniels, formerly residents of his beloved hometown of Ellsworth, Kansas. He later spent a large part of his retirement residing on his farm that he restored. This land was extremely significant to him, as both his grandfather, who built the homestead in 1924, and his Aunt, whom he purchased the property from in 1978, formerly owned it.
Richard attended Ellsworth High School (class of ’59) and Kansas State University where he was a Pi Kappa Alpha and earned a B.A. in Business Administration in 1963. He subsequently resided in Shawnee Kansas, and St. Louis, Missouri where he worked for Standard & Poor’s before moving to Marietta, Georgia in 1976. From then, he had a long career in Medical Publishing/Sales with Harper & Row and then Lippincott Williams & Wilkins until he retired in 1999.
He cherished nothing more in this world than his faith, his family (especially his two granddaughters who were the light of his life and made his eyes sparkle at the mention of their names) and his farm. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and two children, each of whom he dearly loved.
Richard is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Joy Walthall Daniels; a son, Mark Daniels, daughter-in-law Anne Daniels, and granddaughter, Katie (12) of Portland, Oregon; and a daughter, Kimberly Daniels Reid, son-in-law Richard Reid and granddaughter Amelia Joy (5) of London, England.
He is also survived by a large extended family, including his four living sisters Carla Friesen, Joyce Roy, Judy Rule and Darlene McGraw. He was preceded in death by his much-loved sister Carol McAtee, who passed in February 1982.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday February 12, 2018 at 11am at EastSide Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. Following that, he will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ellsworth, Kansas at a later date.
