Young June Koh, of Suwanee, GA passed away June 17, 2023. He was born in Seoul, South Korea on May 10, 1959. He was the middle child born to Heung Min Koh (father) and Jung Hyo Park (mother), and was the younger brother of Young Kwan Koh (brother) and the older brother of Hyung Sook Koh (sister). Even as a young child, Young had an undeniably kind heart full of compassion for others and a deep love for animals. He always looked out for those that could not protect themselves, a trait he would carry through the rest of his life. As a student, he was a study in contrasts—while he excelled in his studies, he could also rough-house with the toughest kids in his neighborhood. He graduated from Kwansung High School and was accepted into prestigious Yonsei University, where he graduated with a degree in Ceramic Sciences and Engineering in 1982. It was also at Yonsei that he met the woman of his dreams, Young Sil Koh. The pair had been set up on a blind date at a college mixer, where they were awarded the title of best disco dancing couple of the night. They continued to date and fell deeply and more madly in love. A few months after graduation, they exchanged wedding vows and began the next chapter of their lives together as husband and wife. They lived briefly on the country seaside while Young was enlisted in the South Korean army, and in 1984 they welcomed their first daughter, Ahra Koh Kitchens. Five years later, they welcomed their second daughter, Woori Koh. It was around this time that Young and his family embarked upon a new journey in America when his employer Samsung opened an office in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1990, Young and his wife picked up their family and immigrated to the United States, beginning yet another chapter in their adventure together.
Young loved his life in America and never missed an opportunity to take his family exploring all the attractions in Georgia and neighboring states. He would spend hours ahead of each trip meticulously planning detailed sightseeing itineraries, dining destinations, and fun activities to ensure they made the most of each moment. After an adventurous five years, he and his wife decided they wanted to put their roots down in Georgia. He left his comfortable role at Samsung and made a leap to entrepreneurship, becoming the owner of his own Mail Boxes Etc. shipping franchise in Douglasville, Georgia. After several years of hard work and running his business, he reinvented himself once again, studying real estate nightly after work and getting licensed as a residential/commercial broker in 2000. He went on to have a successful career by partnering with and starting his own real estate companies: Vine Properties, LLC; Southeast Regional Center, LLC; Youngs Realty Corporation; and Green-Koh Commercial Real Estate, LLC.
Young was also a man of many hobbies and passions. He had a particular love for landscaping and prided himself on his manicured lawn that he diligently maintained every weekend. He loved to exercise, lifting weights and walking on average 6-7 miles daily. He was an incredible handyman—no matter the repair required, he could make himself an expert on it and have it fixed better than new in no time. He loved anything with a kick and brought shock and wonder to many through the years with his ability to consume the spiciest foods and peppers with a smile and just a few drops of sweat. He was always eager to embrace the newest technology and became a talented videographer, curating hundreds of hours of invaluable home videos over the years. He was also an incredible cook. Although he dabbled in the kitchen in his past, he became an accomplished chef in his recent years, honing his skills in Korean-Chinese fusion cuisine. In short, he was a Renaissance man.
Out of his many passions in life, however, there was none he enjoyed more and placed more importance on than spending time with his family—especially his sweet little grandsons, James (6), Henry (4), and Elijah (1.5). He prayed daily for their safekeeping and happiness. He absolutely adored them, and they adored him back. His love for his family, including his four-legged furry members, knew no bounds. He was the most selfless, compassionate, and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, and dog-father anyone could ask for.
Young is survived by his wife, Young Sil Koh of Suwanee, GA; two daughters, Ahra Koh Kitchens and her husband Madison Kitchens of Atlanta, GA, and Woori Koh and her husband Nathan Koon of Dacula, GA; three grandsons, James Kitchens, Henry Kitchens, and Elijah Koh; his younger sister, Hyung Sook Koh of Seoul, South Korea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Heung Min Koh and Jung Hyo Park, and his older brother, Young Kwan Koh.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 12, 2023 at Georgia Memorial Park Chapel, 2000 Cobb Pkwy, SE, Marietta, GA 30060 at 2:30pm.
