She was born November 13, 1915, in McDowell County, NC to the late Thomas Arrowood and Maggie Sprouse Arrowood. Mrs. Lewis was a faithful member of Garden Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of WMU and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She loved to sew and do embroidery of all types. She had several careers in her lifetime, but most recently retired from Lake James Rest Home.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Pink F. Lewis, Sr.; one son, Pink Lewis, Jr.; one daughter, Virginia Guffey; and four grandchildren, Allen, Rodney, Roy Jr. and Tammy Lewis.
Surviving Mrs. Lewis are four sons, John Lewis and wife, Doris, Roy Lewis, Michael Lewis and Henry Lewis and wife, Norma; three daughters, Lou Ledwell, Carolyn Duncan and husband, Thomas and Marie Lewis; one brother, Dewey Arrowood; one sister, Eula Perdieu; twenty-two grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Garden Creek Baptist Church and Asheville Health Care for all the special care, love and support shown to Mrs. Lewis and her family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Garden Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at the church with Rev. Coy Jeans and Jewell McNeal officiating. Committal services will be held at Garden Creek Baptist Church with burial following at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
