Ernest (Ernie) Allen Thompson, 69, of Old Fort went home to live with Jesus on Thursday, September 18, 2014. Thanks to the care of hospice and many supporters, Ernie was able to live at home until his passing.
Ernie was born on December 8,1944 to Fred Leroy Thompson and Verona Marie Thompson in Dunkirk, New York. Ernie and his wife Pat Perry Thompson, of Brevard, North Carolina, have called McDowell County home for over 35 years.
Ernie was well known for being a successful entrepreneur. Two of his businesses were the Cue and Cushion Family Billiards in Marion and later the P.G.Trader in Pleasant Gardens. He was known for being honest and fair with everyone. He loved having great conversations and fun with everyone! He shot pool like a pro and he was one of the all time traders. He had an extensive knowledge of the value of tradable goods. Ernie loved people and he could talk to anyone, whether it was an intellectual conversation or passing the time of day. The success of each business was found in Ernie’s unique personality.
Ernie loved his God, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He was a veteran of the US Army. He also loved life: fishing, target practice, a game of nine-ball, ping-pong, golf, motorcycle rides, a day on the lake, poker games with buddies, Jeopardy, a good ball game, a sunset at Tybee, making a difference at the end of the day, and the 23rd Psalm. Ernie was a serious prankster and he enjoyed laughing at the victim of his many pranks.
Ernie is survived by his wife Pat Perry Thompson, two sons, a daughter, and six grandchildren. His son Bob is married to Annabelle. Their children are Ryan, Bryce, and Rayne Thompson of Deland, FL.
