Jack Merrill Davis, 76, of Old Fort, NC, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in Old Fort.

Mr. Davis was born on November 20, 1940, in McDowell County, to the late William Davis and Violet Walker Davis.

He was a member of Cherry Springs Baptist Church and was retired from Collins and Aikman.

Mr. Davis was a pillar of the Old Fort community and highly respected. He was a compassionate and giving man who enjoyed volunteering at the Old Fort Senior Center.

Mr. Davis loved farming, gardening, and was an avid bicycling enthusiast. On his 70th birthday, he rode 70 miles in Charleston, SC to celebrate his birthday. He was very dedicated to exercise and any tasks he set his mind to. Most of all, Mr. Davis was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and provider for his family.

Surviving Mr. Davis are his wife of 51 years, Doris; his son, Merrill (Kathy) Davis of Mt. Hebron; four daughters, Karen (Chris) Packer, of Old Fort, Chirstine (Jerry) Wall of Burnsville, Wendy (Jack) Law of Easley, SC, and Laura (Jim) Hill of Marion; a brother, Reid (Dana) Davis of Old Fort; a sister, Sue (Alan) Moffitt of Old Fort; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 and/or Gideons International Inc., 457 Robertson Rd., Dawson, GA 30534.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Chapel in Old Fort. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Cherry Springs Baptist Church in Old Fort at 12:00 PM with Reverend Marty Conner officiating. Burial will follow the service at Cherry Springs Memorial Park.
