Kate Mae Epley Davenport

Kate Mae Epley Davenport, age 89, of Marion, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2016 at McDowell Hospital in Marion.

Mrs. Davenport was born on April 25, 1927 in McDowell County, to Carl and Effie Hall Epley.

Kate was a beloved sister and aunt and a devoted wife, who loved her family, traveling and reading, especially her Bible. She was a long standing, faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. Making pies and taking them to visit with others who were sick or homebound was her ministry. She worked many years at Drexel Furniture Co. and was retired.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Jonas Davenport; her daughter, Diane Davenport; brothers, Vernon Epley, Clyde Epley, J. B. Epley, and Buddy Epley; sisters, Evelyn (PeeWee) Morgan, Pauline Day, and Charlotte Reel.

Surviving Mrs. Davenport are a special niece, Gail Ellis of Marion; sisters Joyce Suttles of Pittsboro, NC and Mary Lou Sprinkle of Marion; special friends Cathy Morgan of Marion and Gladys Sanford and Maria Sanford-Medley both of Conyers, Ga.; and many more nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 3:30 PM at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Marion with Dr. Tom Walker and Rev. Ron McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.
