Louise T Murphy

Mrs. Louise Talley Murphy, 91, of Marion, died Friday, November 13, 2015. Born April 23, 1924, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Nellie Largin Talley.

Mrs. Murphy was a faithful member and pillar of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church where she served as Deaconess, Trustee, Treasurer of Sunday School, President of the Missionary Society, member of the Gospel Choir, and Secretary of the Busy Bee Club. She was regarded as the Mother of the Church.

Mrs. Murphy was once honored by the Marion City Council as the Citizen of the Month for the fine example she set for her community. She was a loyal employee of the Woodrow Greene and Thurman Richie Families for over six decades. They are forever grateful for her friendship and memories full of laughter. Her love and devotion made their lives richer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shirl O. Murphy, and four siblings.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by her sister, Mary Catherine Davidson, of Asheville, and her niece, Russell Murphy, of Marion.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church with the Rev. Terry Young officiating. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion AME Zion Church, 101 Zion Road, Marion, NC 28752.
