Mary Lee Horton

Mary Lee Hawkins Horton was born on August 15, 1924 in Strawberry Plains,Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Ross & Marie Carson Hawkins and lived most of her life in Marion, NC. Mary was a member of the West Marion United Methodist Church and a descendent of the Carson family who were one of the founding families of McDowell County.

Mary was the wife of Robert Horton, Jr., also of Marion. She was a Christian who lived her faith every day. She was an example to all who knew her and touched many lives through her kindness, charity and gentle spirit.

In addition to her husband of sixty-six years, Mary is survived by her sons, Robert III and wife, Fran of Asheville; Keith and wife, Maria of Fairview; her brother, Robert K. Hawkins of Marion; her sister, Catherine Evans and husband, Jim of Niceville, FL; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Pulliam Chapel of Givens Estate, Asheville. Graveside Rites will be celebrated at a later date at West Marion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at Givens Estate and at West Marion United Methodist Church at 4:30 p.m.

Mary loved the Lord; was devoted to her husband and children and lived in hope of eternal life.
