

Norma Jean Hogan Mace, aged 87, died on December 30. Jean was preceded in death by her husband and lifelong love, Cecil Adam Mace. Her devoted daughters are Linda Mace McGee and husband Gary; and Leslie Mace Turner and husband David. Jean’s cherished grandchildren are Scott Adam McGee and wife Jenna; Jeffrey Sean McGee and fiancé Jill Highsmith; Megan Elizabeth Turner and Justin Robert Turner; and her sweet great-grandchildren, Bryce Adam McGee and Kolette Kalyn McGee.
Jean was the youngest daughter of the twelve children of Ella Lee Ward Hogan and Caleb Pinckney Hogan. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her beloved sisters and brothers: Lora Eastridge, Richard Hogan, Irene Buckner, Lillian Ray, Robert Hogan, Cecila Jane Hogan, Don Hogan, Frank Hogan, J.C. Hogan, Perry Hogan, and Carroll Hogan. Jean leaves behind many caring nieces, nephews and other loved ones, along with treasured friends and caregivers, Faye Davis and Russell “Duck” Murphy, Lisa Flores and Sandy Little. Jean grew up in the Glenwood Community and proudly graduated from Glenwood High School. She loyally worked at American Thread Company/Coats American for almost 50 years, where she made many friends throughout her life.
Jean was a beautiful woman in mind, body and spirit. She was involved in East Marion Baptist Church, helped others as a volunteer at Marion Hospital and delivered food for Meals on Wheels with her beloved Cecil. Jean encouraged and inspired her daughters, supporting them in Girl Scouts, in their church and their studies. She was creative as a great cook and in crafting ceramics. She was always excited to travel with family, from annual summer vacations at Myrtle Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, and later trips to Hawaii, Italy, England and cruises.
The funeral to celebrate Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, January 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Kirksey’s Funeral Home, 69 North Main Street in Marion, NC 28752. The family will also greet friends following the service. Flowers are welcomed or contributions can be made to your preferred church or organization.
