Ruby Smith Thomas, 84, of Marion, NC passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine, NC.

She was born January 9, 1926 in Mitchell County, NC to the late Dewey Buchanan and Grace Howell Buchanan. Mrs. Thomas was a member of West Court Baptist Church and served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Martin Thomas; two brothers, Dan and Donald Buchanan; and one sister, Mildred Lail.

Surviving are one son, Kenny Smith and wife, Lynn of Marion, NC; two daughters, Jean Burleson and husband, Gerald of Micaville, NC and Kathy Jenkins of Marion, NC; one brother, Quinten Buchanan and wife, Shirley of Spruce Pine, NC; one sister, Gail Duncan and husband, Bill of Marion, NC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at West Court Baptist Church with Mrs. Thomas’ nephew, Rev. Jeff Duncan, and grandson, Rev. Tim Burleson, and Rev. Ross Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at West Court Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion.
