

Mark E. Schaufelberger, 59 of Bluffton, passed away Saturday afternoon April 11, 2026, surrounded by his family, at the Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne. Mark was a 1985 graduate of Hicksville High school in Ohio. Early in his career he worked as a Large Equipment Mechanic for several companies. Most recently he was co-owner and operator, with his wife Sandy and daughter Whitney, of the Markle Do-It-Best Hardware for over 17 years. Mark was a member of the Markle Church of Christ, where he had served as a trustee and was on the security team. He was greatly involved in the Markle community over the years. He was the caretaker of the Markle Cemetery for many years and served on the cemeteries board. He was a board member of the Markle Fish and Game Club Park and loved to serve fish and tenderloin at the annual fish fry. Mark was a two-time Markle Grouch and truly enjoyed the Customer Appreciation Days at the Hardware store. He was a practical joker and his one of a kind laughter was contagious and known by all in the community. Mark loved the outdoors and helping others whenever he was able.
Mark was born on September 5, 1966 in Hicksville, OH a son of the late Mindred A. and Simone L. (Willis) Schaufelberger.
He was united in marriage to Sandra "Sandy" K. Lund on August 5, 1995 at the Markle Church of Christ. She preceded Mark in death on September 17, 2012.
Survivors include three daughters: Whitney (Nick) McBride of Warren, Shelby S. Schaufelberger of Bluffton and Savannah P. (Nolan) Gray of Newburgh, Indiana; a sister: Mary (Mike) Harman of Bryan, Ohio; a brother: Lee Schaufelberger of Mesa, AZ; and three grandchildren: Daniel, Noah and Dinah McBride.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandy and his parents.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Markle Church of Christ, 455 E. Morse St., Markle, Indiana.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with one hour of visitation prior to the service.
Interment will take place in the Markle Cemetery.
