Donald was born on July 22, 1944 in Marlin, Texas to Steve and Louise Afinowicz. After graduating from Marlin High School in 1963, he served in the Texas Army National Guard and worked at Western Auto and then later Marlin Mills and Wallace Computer Services where he served as the long time Maintenance Manager for the plant. Whether at work or in his free time, he was known for his curiosity and talent for all things mechanical and enjoyed solving problems of all sizes.
In 1967, he married Cheryl Collins, and together they had one son, Jason. Donald was a joyfully devoted father and, later, grandfather. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage on cars and other mechanical complications, traveling the United States, and enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors on frequent camping and fishing trips with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Louise, sister Rose, brother Leon, and his beloved wife Cheryl. He will be deeply missed by his brother Steve Junior, son Jason, grandchildren Luke and Chloe, as well as extended family and friends whose lives he touched.
A small memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later time. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Texas Parks and Wildlife or the Humane Society of Central Texas.
