Doris L. Grusendorf

Doris Lee Grusendorf, 62, of Robinson Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday June 24, 2013 after a four year battle with cancer. Services will be 10:00 am, June 27, 2013 at Eastside Church of Christ in Marlin, TX. Shawn Williams will give the eulogy and Roger Nutt will lead the singing. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Marlin, TX. Visitation will take place at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm.

Doris was born in Marlin, Texas on November 1, 1950 to Leo and Pauline (Pick)Locke. After graduating from Marlin High School, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, John Paul Grusendorf Sr. on January 23, 1970. For twenty years, Doris worked as an R.N. at both the Marlin and Waco V.A. Medical Centers. Later, she served as the school nurse for Marlin ISD. Most recently, she taught the infant class at Trinity Lutheran ECLC in Riesel.

Doris was an amazing homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. She sewed countless dresses, shirts, and costumes for her grandchildren as well as numerous blankets, curtains, doll dresses, and home décor. She loved to cross stitch and do all kinds of crafty projects. With a passion for flower gardening, especially roses, she spent many hours pulling weeds, tilling the soil, and pruning her plants. She enjoyed being outdoors, reveling in sunrises and sunsets, mountains, waterfalls, ocean views, thunderstorms, birds of all kinds, and the sound of wind chimes stirring in her garden. Most of all, Doris relished time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing games with them, buying them gifts, baking treats for them, and watching them at sporting events. Doris and her husband John are long time members of Eastside church of Christ in Marlin, their very precious church family.

Doris is preceded in death by her mother and father (Leo and Pauline Locke), A brother, Leo Jr. and sister Grace Locke. She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, John Paul Grusendorf Sr. of Robinson, TX, a daughter, Sandra McPhee and husband Clint of Boerne, TX; a son, John Paul Grusendorf, Jr., and wife Herlinda of Lorena, TX; grandchildren, Joshua Grusendorf, Miranda Prado, Ethan McPhee, Laurel McPhee, and Malcolm McPhee; 2 sisters, Mildred Matjevich and husband Otto of Middletown N.Y., Kay Swinnea of Riesel TX; as well as numerous dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Pokey Swinnea, Greg Downes, David Lawson, Clint McPhee, Joshua Grusendorf, and Mark Gerik. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Cunningham, Claude Downes Jr., Erman Owen, Otto Matjevich, Damon Swinnea, and Gary Scharrer.
