

Edwin William (E.W.) Ehlers, Jr., 87 of Riesel, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 20, 2021, in Waco. Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Marlin on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. and burial to follow in Riesel Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
E.W. was born December 18, 1933, near Mart, McLennan County, TX, the son of Edwin William Ehlers, Sr. and Annie Dyck Ehlers. He was baptized March 28, 1934, at Friedens Evangelical Church in Riesel and confirmed there on May 16, 1948. He was a 1952 graduate of Riesel High School and on December 31, 1953 he married Nettie Mae Neumann of Marlin at Grace Lutheran Church. After a tour of duty with the US Army in Germany for 2 years, he was employed with the Blacklands Experimental Watershed in Riesel, retiring in 1979 after 25 years. He helped build the cable TV systems of Clifton, Mart, Meridian, Valley Mills, and West. After retiring from McLennan County in 1996, he did custom hay baling. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, deer hunting, barbecuing, and playing dominoes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mildred Ehlers Brown, and brother, Ronald W. Ehlers.
He is survived by, wife, Nettie Ehlers, daughters, Vicki Watts, Tami Keller and husband, Randy, Salli Smith and husband, Theo, and son Patrick Ehlers and wife, Darby. His grandchildren, Grant Watts and wife, Lindsey, Tyler Watts and wife, Danielle, Logan Watts and wife, Rebecca, Blake Watts and wife, Chelsey; Miranda Sjolander and husband, Kooper, Kandice Lammert and husband, Nathan, Dustin Keller and wife, Sierra; Sirika Smith, Michelle Reil and husband, Greg; Raley Ehlers, Cade Ehlers, Myla Ehlers and also 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Ehlers; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Marlin, TX.
