He started a life of labor at a young age. He tended a large garden and sold produce by the age of 10. He tried his hand in many jobs but found he had a knack for operating heavy equipment in his late teens. He continued to learn and develop this skill throughout his adult life.
Elmer had a love for dancing that was only matched by the love of his life, Verna Lee Mears, of Cedar Springs, TX. Whom he proudly admitted to meeting on the dance floor and marrying just a few days later on August 21, 1948. They moved to Marlin, TX in 1950 where they began ranching. Together they had four children, Elmer Lee, Gay Lynette, Milton Aaron and Joye Janiece.
At the height of his ranching career he operated over 3500 acres of land running stocker yearlings and momma cows. He also ran a successful sand and gravel business for many years. He was a Falls County Commissioner for two terms. He retired at the age of 67, but helping his children with their respective ranching operations, working as much as 12 hour days because he couldn't sit idle, well into his late 80s.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Ed Albright, sister Geneva Eisele, daughter Gay and son Elmer Lee.
He is survived by his loving wife Verna of 73 years, sister Betty Wells, son Milton Albright and wife Cara Sue of Marlin, daughter Joye and husband Carl Erskine of Hubbard, grandchildren Mendy and husband Josh Riddle, Erin and husband Steve Jones, Aimee Albright, Jace Albright, Sunny and husband Blake Kelly, Jaimee and husband Michael Passini, Sierra and husband Stephen Lenoir as well as 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin, TX. Monday, June 13,2022 from 5:30-7:30pm.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Marlin, TX. Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
