

Martha Katherine (Lochridge) Reed, age 97, passed away Wednesday, July 8,2015 in Baytown, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday, July 12, from 3-6 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin, Texas. A graveside service will be Monday, July 13, at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin with Pastor Doug Howell officiating.
Martha was born December 17, 1917 to James Lewis and Gertrude (Denny) Lochridge in Mercedes, Texas. She had lived in Houston and Baytown, Texas since 1981 and prior to that she lived with her husband and family in Tomball, Texas and Los Angeles California. Martha graduated from Highland High School in Dallas, Texas and Texas Women’s University with a BA Degree in Library Science. Her first assignment was Librarian in Marlin High School. At the beginning of World War II she enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. During the war she also served as a Librarian in the Naval Aviation Station in Corpus Christi, Texas, Camp Wallace Separation Center in Hitchcock, Texas and Navy Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Martha met her husband while working at Camp Wallace. She was also an accomplished china painter and a member of the Houston Porcelain Arts Club.
Martha is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lee H. Reed, Jr., daughters, Sarah Katherine Wahl and husband, Terry of Baytown, Texas and Elizabeth Ann Reed of Baytown, Texas; grandchildren, Michael A. Wahl and wife, Shelly of Spring Branch, Texas, Amy Katherine Dunagan and husband, Dan of San Antonio, Texas and Amanda Lee Schonfeld and husband, Klaus of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren, Hannah Weaver, Allison Weaver, Nathan Weaver, Keira Schonfeld and Meghan Schonfeld; niece, Janet Peirce of Georgetown
