Vera began her life journey on that farm in Otto, Texas as the big sister to six brothers. She attended North Corner School and as a young woman moving to Mart Texas to work at the drug store and lived in a boarding house where through her roommate she was introduced and later married the love of her life Louis Amond Sielaff on October 29,1949 sharing 54 years of marriage. Louis worked first as a farmer and carpenter and Vera provided the loving home for their children. The family moved to Riesel Texas in 1959 and Vera continued as a homemaker and provided a place for neighborhood children as daycare in her home. When her children graduated high school she began her career outside the home working in various sewing factories including Rich Knit, Mart Sewing Factory and retiring from Marlin Manufacturing. Vera enjoyed and was blessed with being a talented seamstress plus being an awesome cook and baker. Her cooking skills were evident by the Chocolate Sheet Cake for church functions, the Banana Bread for family, friends and the children of Trinity ECLC or the always expected "Sweet Rice" at the family reunions. Lovingly known as Mom, Granny, Mimi or Sis with the ever present Dr. Pepper and a refrigerator full of treats especially Kit Kats you were always welcome to share sometime with her. She especially enjoyed her visit from her grandchildren, great grands and most recently her great-great granddaughter. Vera could always be found attending any ballgames and functions of those same grands. Later years she enjoyed the challenge of a good word search puzzle along with that Dr. Pepper. Vera was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Riesel Texas serving as chairperson of the Thoughtfulness Committee and volunteering for VBS.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louis in 2004, her parents and brothers Harold, Wesley, Kenneth and Curtis. Lovingly remembered and survived by daughter, Carolyn (Dave) Ross and son, Ronnie (Norma) Sielaff. Two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
