Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Anthony was the beloved son of the late Anthony and Doris Cefalu. He proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and the US Naval Reserve. Throughout his life, Anthony was known for his strong work ethic, dedicating many years of service to Coca-Cola before concluding his career with the U.S. States Department of Agriculture at Michoud.
He was a devoted pastor for many years, sharing his faith and kindness with everyone he met. One of his greatest joys was traveling to Santo Domingo, where he ministered to those in need and offered comfort and hope. He had a special way of making people feel seen and loved, and he was deeply cherished by all those he served. Anthony was devoted to his faith, often praising God through both word and song. He also had a deep passion for music and was a talented guitarist and songwriter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nancy Keagy Cefalu; his children, Laura Rini Raines (Jeffrey) and Jack Mariano (Josie); and his cherished grandchildren, DJ McConnell (Monica), Megan Rini Owens (Michael), Max Mariano, Jessica Raines Bordes (Kenny) and Jarrod Raines. Anthony was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Taran, Killian, and Murphy Owens, Amara McConnell, and Charlie, Ryann, and Sammie Bordes.
He leaves behind his sisters, Rita Boudreaux (Jerry), Camille Arceneaux, and Gail Marino, as well as his nieces Bonnie Buchert (Derek), Susie Boudreaux, Michelle Arceneaux, and Pammay Worth. He was also a beloved relative and friend to many more whose lives he touched with kindness and spirit.
Anthony was lovingly welcomed in heaven by his daughter, Nina Cefalu, his parents, Anthony and Doris Cefalu, and his birth mother, Rosa Marie Culotta, who died during childbirth.
“So, my friend, we may suffer a lot. But I’ll always be grateful for what I got. My Lord and savior, he’s, my friend. And a relationship with him, that will never end. My friend if you’re in pain. Remember for me to live is Christ and to die is to gain.” Written by Anthony Cefalu 3-17
