

Daniel Joseph Bourgeois Sr. passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of Betty Bourgeois for over 61 years. Father of Daniel Joseph Bourgeois Jr. (Veronica), Evelyn Bourgeois Hue (Eric), and Buddy Bourgeois (Annette), as well as the late David Bourgeois (Melanie) and Joseph Bourgeois (Cathy). He was the grandfather of 16 grandchildren, as well as numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was the son of the late Belle Ann Christen Bourgeois and Everst Bourgeois. He was the brother of Annita, Roland, and Jenny, as well as the late Max, Norman, Rita, Ruth, Myrtle, and Clyde. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was a proud US Marine during the Korean War. He was always giving his grandson who is a Sergeant First Class in the Army a hard time for being in the wrong branch of service, but he was also so proud of his longtime commitment to serving our country. He spent most of his life as a welder and pipe fitter. He was also an attendant at Joe's Landing in Lafitte. He was a native of Raceland, and long time resident of Lafitte, he returned to Raceland following his retirement, and lived with his daughter in Pierre Part for the last three years. He loved fishing and football. He was an outgoing person who enjoyed meeting new people and never met a stranger. He was a good man who will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Nativity Catholic Church in Raceland on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will start on Thursday, January 31, at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home in Marrero from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM, and continue on Friday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
