Edwin Joseph “Pookey” Cortez Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday afternoon, May 2, 2015 at 4:23. He was 77 years old. Loving husband of Yvonne T. Cortez of 57 years. Loving father of Ricky Cortez (Dawn), Jodie Perrin (Andrew), Susan Cortez (Ashley), and the late David P. Cortez (Chetta). Grandfather of Crystal Cortez, Edwin “Boo Boo” Cortez (Yasmine), Brendon Hunter, Dayton Hunter, Alexcia Rodriguez, Kyleigh Rodriguez, Tena Robin, Brandi Sullivan, Kelly Todaro, and the late Rachel Cortez and Ricki Lynn Cortez. Brother of Terrie C. Percle and the late Joyce Encalade, Irma Lomax, and Edwina Cortez. Son of the late Edwin Cortez Sr. and Verney Cortez. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a native and resident of Westwego for the majority of his life, and had recently moved to the Folsom area. Pookey retired from Chevron’s Oak Point Plant as a pipefitter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his loving friends and family, who will miss him dearly. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial from Westside LEITZ-EAGAN, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 2015 at 1:00.
