Eugenie "Genie" Rita Wetzel passed away peacefully at her residence on April 14, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1955 to the late Eugene B. Wetzel, Sr. and Amelia P. Wetzel. Loving mother of Jamie Ohmer, Matthew Ohmer and Deana O. Wilson. Proud grandmother of Amelia Ohmer, Cameron Lee and Kaiden Lee whom she adored. Sister of Lionel and Gwen. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Genie was preceded in death by her brother Eugene B. Wetzel, Jr., and her sisters Kathlyn Thomassie and Caroline Robichaux.
Genie was a graduate of L.W. Higgins High School in the class of 1975. She retired from the Jefferson Parish Public School system in 2018 after 30 years of service. She enjoyed making ceramics but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Genie is deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
