

on Saturday, May 14, 2011 while surrounded by his loving family. He was 79. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish in his beloved Louisiana swampland. He was preceded in death by his wives, Susan Hymel Verdin and Edine C. Verdin; his parents, Antoine Verdin and Marie Verdin; his stepfather, Alphonse Levron; a brother, Allen Levron and a sister, Laura Mae Gelbreth. He is survived by his children: Fedless Verdin, Jr. (Leslie), Anthony Verdin (Catherine), Debra Levet (Gary), Christine Breaux (Morton), Leslie Gilchrist (Byron) and Timothy Verdin (Tina); his stepchildren: Thomas Cherrier (Phyllis) and Elizabeth McDonald (Chester); 24 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Also survived by 7 siblings: Nichol Verdin, Lillian Duffourc, Wilfred Verdin, Antoine David Verdin, Louis Verdin, Amelia Bond and John “Jacky” Verdin and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Parish and a retired shipfitter from Avondale Industries. He was also a certified volunteer firefighter at Nine Mile Point Fire Department and served as a fourth degree knight of the 6357 Council of the Knights of Columbus, participating in many charitable activities and functions.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, May 18, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday morning, May 19, 2011 beginning at 9:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expwy. in Marrero. Interment will be in Restlawn Park in Avondale.
