Frank Joseph Sampey Sr., a resident of Bedico, (Tangipahoa Parish) La. Entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 30, 2021. He was born in Vacherie Gheens, La. on January 11, 1926 to the late Elouise Theriot Sampey and the late Leon Sampey. He was the beloved husband of 71 years to Lou Ella Loup Sampey, and the loving and devoted father of Sherry Calcagno (Stephen Jr.), Sandra Dupuy (Donny), Mark and Frank Sampey Jr. (Clarissa). Frank was the proud grandfather of Summer Calcagno, Misty Cassidy (Robert), Darla Champagne (Chad), Destun Dupuy, and Alleyna Sampey, and great-grandfather to Cameron Cassidy and VivAnna Champagne. He is also survived by his cherished sister Lara Chauvin who he loved dearly, and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers: Abel, Vanice, Alvans, Hubert, Edison, Everal, Elzy, and Louis Sampey, and sisters: Thelma Arabie, Mary Bergeron and, Marie “Elma” Detillier.
Frank was named after his paternal grandfather, and as a child of the depression developed a survival ethic that he instilled in his children. In his youth Frank played baseball in Gheens for the White Gold Sugar Mill. His hands were always in the good earth growing more vegetables than his family needed so he could share with good friends. He cherished friends and family, loved company and was the happiest when surrounded by those who sat on his patio rocking, talking and enjoying a beautiful sunny day or rainy afternoon. We couldn’t forget his beloved K9 companion Cracker Jack who sat on that patio daily with dad. Frank was known to bring a smile or a chuckle to everyone’s face with a joke. He embraced his cajun heritage and especially enjoyed the cajun music.
His span of employment included Celotex Corporation, Jefferson Parish Police Dept., and he retired as a superintendent for the Jefferson Parish Sewage Dept. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his care givers: Holly Gideon, Holly Castillo, and Wanda Shelton, and we would like to thank Amedisys Hospices for their tender loving care given to dad during his transition.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM on Wednesday, July 14th, 2021 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 146 Fourth Street in Westwego, Louisiana.
