Janet Ann Hinyub Chiasson passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at the age of 86. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Carl J. Chiasson; sons Tab (Faye) and Brad (Kellen); grandchildren Kyle, Kelsi, Kara, and Brandon; great-grandchildren Konnor, Kason, and Bryce. Janet is also survived by her brothers-in-law Earnie, Jr., Ray, Wayne and Brian. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Mildred Hinyub, father-in-law Earnie Chiasson, Sr., mother-in-law Della Chiasson, and brothers-in-law Elmond and Glenn Chiasson.
Janet was a native of Gretna and a resident of Marrero for the last 48 years. She attended West Jefferson High School and was a proud graduate in the class of 1956.
Janet was the most loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grand and great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend to all who were blessed to be a part of her life. She loved spending time with her family and especially bringing her grandchildren to the zoo, aquarium and Jazzland every summer. She was the "hostess with the mostest" and loved having family gatherings at her house, often preparing gumbo, potato salad, and iced tea.
Janet enjoyed going to the parades with everyone, catching several parades in one day. She had a wonderful group of friends who would meet to play Pokeno and go out for a girls' luncheon. She was everyone's seamstress, creating first communion gowns, dance attire, pageant and wedding dresses. Aside from her family, some of her proudest accomplishments included sewing costumes for the first Krewe of Cleopatra parade in 1972 and winning several beauty pageants, including holding the title of Miss Westside in 1956.
Janet was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all, especially her husband.
The memorial Mass will begin at 2:30PM on March 3rd, 2025 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. A memorial visitation will begin at 11:30AM until the Mass time.
