Kevin leaves behind his faithful sister Beth Tranchina (Joe), Kimberly Childress and Gene Childress. He is also survived by nephews Brad Childress (Hayley), Tyler (Kelia) & Tanner Hernandez and niece Jessica Ponthieux, along with many aunts, uncles, great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kevin began his career as an electrician’s helper, working with his dad offshore, before an unfortunate accident leading to a traumatic brain injury that changed his and his family’s lives in 1985. This lead his parents to immerse themselves into learning more about his injury and doing everything they could for him to have as normal of a life as possible and becoming advocates for families with head injured relatives. Kevin lived independently until his parents’ death. As his brain injury worsened, his family was forced to seek 24/7 nursing care. As a resident of the West Jefferson Healthcare Center, he was known by the staff as the resident flirt until Hurricane Ida uprooted him away from family and familiar surroundings. Fortunately, he landed in the wonderful care of the staff of Landmark of Plaquemine nursing home, that he still flirted with daily.
Family and friends who knew Kevin will fondly reminisce of his love for the Chicago Cubs, much to the dismay of his sister because he missed her college graduation in order to watch a Cubs game on TV. His second love was pizza, which we made sure he got anytime we were able to visit him.
The family would like to thank the loving & caring staff of Landmark of Plaquemine for their care & compassion, especially his nurse Jalisa, whom Beth spoke to on a regular basis because “he just wouldn’t listen.”
In lieu of flowers, Kevin’s family would like to encourage anyone who wishes to donate new clothes, socks, or shoes to a local nursing home in the community for residents who may not have family or friends who are able to do so for them.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and internment will be private.
