Nida Marie Toups

Nida Smith Toups entered into eternal rest peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on October 1, 2014. Age 71, Nida was a native of Pitkin, Louisiana and a lifelong resident of Westwego, Louisiana. She was married to the love of her life, Melvin Toups Sr., for 51 years. Nida was a homemaker who lovingly raised five children. She enjoyed walks in the park, camping with her husband and spending time with her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Toups Sr., father “Buster” Frank Smith, mother Leona Durand Smith Manzella, daughter Melissa Toups Phipps and granddaughter Kacy Toups. She is survived by her sisters, Francine Templet and Patricia Klause; sons Melvin Toups Jr. (Jennifer) and Byron Toups; daughters Deborah Toups and Sara Toups (Roger Sullivan) and special family friend Cheryl Comeaux. She was the proud grandparent of Keri Toups, Krista Toups, Justin Ockert, Austin Ockert and Arabella Sullivan. She was the proud great-grandparent of Alexandria Strong, Leland Strong, Terry Strong, Natalya Paninski and Bentley Ockert. The family would like to thank the staff of Egan Hospice for their caring assistance. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expy. in Marrero, Louisiana.
