He was born on February 8, 1936, in Beaumont, Arkansas, to Evans Nelson Roark and Minnie Mae Adams Roark. One of eight children, he was preceded in death by all seven of his siblings. At the age of two, his family relocated to Louisiana, where he grew up and built the foundation of a life marked by faith, hard work, and devotion to family.
Ray received the Holy Ghost in 1955 and carried his faith with him throughout his life. It guided how he loved others and served quietly in his church and community. He met the love of his life, Nila Lucille Randall, on a church bus traveling to a youth rally, and they married on May 9, 1953. Together they built a strong, loving home and shared many happy years side by side.
He worked faithfully for 37 years at Avondale Shipyard before retiring. He also completed his Adult Education diploma, setting an example of perseverance and responsibility for his children and grandchildren. Outside of work, Ray enjoyed the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, and some of his best memories were made in the woods or by the water with family and friends.
Above all, Ray was a family man. He was steady, dependable, and always willing to help. His quiet strength and gentle spirit made those around him feel safe and cared for.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nila Lucille Roark; his children Ray David Roark, Jr.; James Evans Roark; Steven Michael Roark and Tammy; Sandy Roark Sartin and Michael; Christopher Shawn Roark and Mary Catherine.
He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Ray David Roark III and Corrie; Dustin Alein Roark and Daisy Roark; Jennifer Roark Savoie and Bobby; Lauren Rhodes and Rodney; Amanda Roark Bonura and Matt; Katie Roark Reis and Anthony; Kelly Sartin Lopez and Terry; Kasey Lynn Sartin; Keith Sartin, Jr. and Nicole; Sophia Roark; Sean Roark; and Carrie Aguilar and Donald.
He was also blessed with 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Ray will be remembered for his love of God, his dedication to his family, and the steady, hardworking life he lived. His presence will be deeply missed, but the stories, values, and memories he leaves behind will continue through the generations who knew and loved him.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 7th, 2026 at First Pentecostal Church, 3200 Ames Boulevard in Marrero, Louisiana. A visitation will begin at 10:00AM and continue until the Service time. Burial will immediately follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, Louisiana.
