Roman N. Figueroa

Beloved son of the late Justo Rivera and Justina Nevarez - Figueroa, Roman was born Saturday, February 29, 1936, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico. He married Rosaida Bermudez-Figueroa on Wednesday, April 7, 1965, and they lived together in New Orleans, LA., before relocating to Terrytown in 1980.

After coming to the United States at the age of 21 he started a challenging career with Chevron which spanned 35 years until his retirement. He was known by his co workers as hard working, ambitious and always willing to do the jobs that others were reluctant to do. In addition to his career with Chevron he also invested in real estate which he acquired, maintained and operated. He also enjoyed hobbies including raising chickens, horseback riding, traveling and watching wrestling.

Roman is survived and will be missed by his four children Roman Figueroa, of Terrytown, LA.; Rosa A. Figueroa-Gonzalez, wife of Juan Gonzales of Ridgeland, SC.; Maria N. Figueroa, of Harvey, LA.; and Tammy M. Figueroa, of Ridgeland, SC. He is also survived by four grandchildren David J. Figueroa, Sr., of Hilton Head Island, SC.; Alex M. Varela, of Bluffton, SC.; Jada R. Figueroa, of Silsbee, TX.; Caroline E. Gonzalez, of Ridgeland, SC.; and one great-grandchild David J. Figueroa, Jr., of Hilton Head Island, SC.

Roman is predeceased by his late paternal grandparents Leon and Simona Rivera-Figueroa, and maternal grandparents Tomasa and Bernabela Gonzalez-Nevarez, and by three sisters, Felisita Nevarez – Figueroa de Sonchez, Otilia Nevarez – Figueroa de Burgas, Elena Nevarez – Figueroa de Riveroz and six brothers, Luiz Nevarez – Figueroa, Tonno Nevarez - Figueroa, Justino Nevarez – Figueroa, Abran Nevarez – Figueroa, Manuel Nevarez – Figueroa, Juan Nevarez - Figueroa

Service:

A private viewing for immediate family members well be held 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 10th, 2012, at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, Louisiana 70072.

A public viewing and service will be held 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11th, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Road, Terrytown, LA 70056 with a reception following at The Family Home, 524 Terry Parkway Street, Terrytown, Louisiana 70058.

Reverend Michael Nam Nguyen will be presiding over the service. Honorary pallbearers are Roman Figueroa (son) and Felix P. Figueroa (brother), pallbearers Juan D. Gonzalez (son-in-law), Jose A. Gazida (brother-in-law), Marco A. Alvarenga (brother-in-law), Guillermo C. Pedroza (brother-in-law), Rafael O. Bermudez (brother-in-law) and Marc G. Dorsey (family friend).

Roman Figueroa was an ambitious man who was loved and admired by his friends and family. He will be missed!
