Sylvester Odressie Chauvin passed away on December 28, 2025 at the age of 74. He was a long time resident and native of Marrero, Louisiana. He was born on February 19, 1951 to the late Joseph O. Chauvin and the late Isoline Matherne Chauvin. He was the loving husband of Barbara Santini Chauvin for 57 years. Devoted father of Shannon Chauvin Acosta (Corby), Kurt Chauvin (Jennifer), and Kerri Chauvin Sonnier (Kevin). Proud Grandfather of Brooke McCarroll, Tyler Chauvin, Amber Sonnier and three great grandchildren. Brother of the late Calvin Chauvin, the late Ella Mae Andras (Leslie), Allen Chauvin (Phyllis), Ilene Owen (Lercy), and Timothy Chauvin. Sylvester is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will miss him dearly.
Sylvester retired from Bollinger Shipyard after over 26 years of dedicated service.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, January 2, 2026 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. A visitation will begin at 9:00AM and continue until the Mass time. Sylvester will be laid to rest at St. Pius X Mausoleum in Crown Point, Louisiana.
