

Carol Steinberg was born in Tampa, FL, November 4, 1937 to the late David and Sarah Vollenweider. After grammar school, she and her family moved to Waycross, GA. She finished high school in Waycross and then attended college at Georgia Southern and Augusta University. She received a Bachelor’s Degree, an Education Degree and a Media Specialist Degree. She then became a teacher in the Richmond County School System and taught for many years as a teacher at Hephzibah Middle School, and later as a Media Specialist and Carol was a Media Specialist at Meadowbrook Elementary and Blythe Elementary School. She was a recipient of the Richmond County Media Specialist of the year during her tenure. She retired from the school system in 2001 after 38 years.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Jack Steinberg; her children, James (Karen) Jarrard of Warner Robbins, GA, Jenny Jarrard of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons, Christopher (Meghan) Jarrard and AJ (Ashley) Jarrard; great grandson, Colton Jarrard; step-daughter, Mindy Agler; step-son, Rabbi Richard Agler; step-granddaughter, Sarah Agler, step-grandson, Jesse (Tovah) Agler; step-great grandchild, Jonah Arlo Agler. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Vollenweider of St. Simons, Georgia and a sister, Vera Vollenweider of Hazlehurst, Georgia and her brother Rev. Don Vollenweider (Margie) of Valdosta, GA. She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Jarrard; a step-granddaughter, Talia Agler and brothers, David (Betty) Charlie of Dallas, GA, Henry (Mary) of Jacksonville, Florida and sister, Jane of Baltimore, MD.
Carol was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was an active member of several Bible Study classes.
She was loved by all who came in contact with her, and her constant smile kept all who knew her smiling with her. Her constant companions were her two Shih Tzu dogs, LuSi and Song Lee.
Graveside services for Carol will be held 12 noon, Friday, May 5, 2017 at Westover Memorial Park 2601 Wheeler Road Augusta, Ga 30904. The services will be conducted by Rev. Greg Hatfield, assisted by Rev. Don Vollenweider, brother of Carol and Rabbi Richard Agler, step-son of Carol.
