

He was born November 3, 1931 to Dallas Eugene Hinsdale and Ruth Marie Bailey of Winston-Salem, N.C. where he grew up.
He graduated from Gray High School and attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Rhode Island.
During the Korean conflict he served on board a Navy submarine, based primarily out of San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA. His aptitude for electronics earned advancement and he was honorably discharged after 4 years service as an E-5.
After his military service he rejoined his former employer, the Western Electric Company, and worked on military defense contracts for 34 years until his retirement.
He married the former Wanda Louise Williams (deceased), also of Winston-Salem. They were married almost 55 years and lived in Winston-Salem until 2007 when they moved to Evans, Ga.
Ewell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, his sole sibling Kelly Hinsdale (Joan), his son Mark Dallas Hinsdale (Mary) and grandson Mathew Hinsdale. He is survived by his oldest son, Alan Ewell Hinsdale (Laura), his daughter in-law Mary Morrison Hinsdale, 2 granddaughters: Ruth Morris (Doug), Beth Humphrey (Spencer), and 6 grandsons:
William (Brakell), Russell (LaWren), James, David (Eleana), Robert (Staci), and Andrew (Sunny)
Hinsdale.
He has 21 great grandchildren.
Through Alan and Laura: Brock, Tyler, Evelyn, Liv, Bronson, Elijah, Lee, Dallas, Kenley, Mason, LaRue and Cameron.
Through Mark and Mary: Penny, Dominic, Sully, Theo, Frankie, Nora, Lily, Luke and Mark.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 60 years and gave of himself in many service and leadership positions throughout his life.
There will be no services. He will be interred at Oaklawn Cemetery in Winston-Salem next to his wife and in-laws and near his parents and so many other family members.
