

He was born on December 22, 1937, in Bellwood, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and moved to Lakewood, California, when he was 16. He met his wife, Diane, in 1959, while they were both working at a department store in Long Beach, California. They were married in 1960. They later lived in Reno, Nevada, and Conyers, Georgia, retiring in Evans, Georgia, in 1997.
He graduated from California State University, Long Beach, in 1960 and from law school with a Juris Doctor degree in 1975. He worked in Human Resources for JCPenney for 30 years.
He was actively involved in Warren Baptist Church, where he served in the Children’s Ministry. For the last 16 years, he greeted children and their families on Sunday mornings and taught VBS in the summers. He was also involved in missions, having traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, and Ecuador on mission trips.
George was active in the Boy Scouts and was a Eagle Scout. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years. He was very involved in church, and led the youth choir and adult choir. His hobbies included playing the guitar and photography. He volunteered in support of organ donation after receiving a donated kidney in 1995. He and Diane were avid travelers and campers who loved to visit national parks and many other places across the country. Even after retiring, he demonstrated his love for meeting and talking to people while working as a runner for a local law firm. He loved his grandchildren and spent as much time as he could with them.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clair and Doris Rodgers, his brother Gary Rodgers and sister-in-law Diane Rodgers, his brother Dennis Rodgers, and his brother-in-law Larry Bailey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Diane Rodgers, his son Scott Rodgers (Anu) from Hayward, California, and his daughter Trish Allen from Evans, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelsey Allen from Graniteville, South Carolina, Nick Allen (Caitlin) from Louisville, Kentucky, Harpreet Shahi (Jenna) from Hayward, California, and Muskan Shahi from Hayward, California.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in the Chapel of Warren Baptist Church on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m.
