Jeanette was born on December 13, 1932 in Wallington, Surrey, England to her parents, Walter and Clara Coppin. She was raised outside of London with her two sisters and endured the bombing raids of WWII. She found refuge with her family in the English countryside and there met Louis James Benedict Jr., an Airman in the United States Air Force. They married in London in 1953 and moved to California, subsequently serving tours of duty together in Europe and across the United States with their five children. She proudly served as an American Red Cross volunteer at San Vito Air Force base in Italy. They provided their family a life enriched by memorable and multi-cultural adventures, laughter, and love. Their shared experiences bonded the family in a unique and incomparable way. Life as a military spouse with five children was challenging without the support of family nearby, but Jeanette approached her circumstances with strength and determination and made sure that their family home was a safe and comfortable place. After spending 10 years in Manchester, TN, she relocated toAugusta, GA to be near her eldest daughter and was employed at the Medical College of Georgia. She retired in 2002 and then became a small business co-owner of a consignment store in Martinez, GA. She dedicated her free time to travelling, visiting family, and volunteering in the Trinity Hospital gift shop. She greatly enjoyed autumn trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, and she especially loved the beach and spent many weekends in Beaufort, SC. At home, she could be found watching her favorite British shows on PBS, going to the movies, listening to music, and tending to her garden.
Ms. Benedict is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley-Ann and James Albert of Grovetown, GA; her son and daughter-in-law, William and Rene Benedict of Summitville, TN; her daughter,Tracey Carney of Charleston, SC; her son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Vicki Benedict of McMinnville, TN; and her son and daughter-in-law Dennis Benedict and Andrea Payne of Chattanooga, TN. Her legacy also includes thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her twin sisters Norma Ann and Shirley.
A memorial will take place on Saturday January 13, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral home in Martinez, GA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jeanette’s life.
