

Ranjit Lal Bandyopadhyay, 67, passed away on November 26, 2010. Ranjit was born in Ranaghat, West Bengal, India, but spent the majority of his adult life in the United Kingdom and the United States and called Augusta home for the past 26 years. He was a devout and active member of the Hindu Temple Society. A ranked and proud graduate of Presidency College, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharaghpur and Leeds University. He became a chartered Engineer in England, both in Civil Engineering (MICE) and Structural Engineering (MIStructE) at an early age, he got his Professional Engineer (PE) from Texas USA. He worked as a fellow engineer at Savannah River Site, specializing in civil, structural, seismic and nuclear engineering. Among other professional activities, he served as the Chairman of the ACI (American Concrete Institute) Committee 349 on Nuclear Safety-Related Concrete Structures. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 43 years, Chhanda, his mother, Rani Banerjee, his brothers Amitava, Sisir and Dilip and his sister Sushama, his son Arijit, his daughter and son-in-law, Rangana and Mikaal Abdulla, grandson Aamir Lal, granddaughters Imaan Rani and Aamina Devi, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends. A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Sunday, November 28th at Elliott Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Golden Harvest Food Bank at www.goldenharvest.org.
