

Mrs. Tannen was born to the late Jacob and Sarah Harris in Cuthbert, Georgia in 1924.. She graduated in 1945 from Vanderbilt University and resided in Washington DC and Boston/Lynn, Massachusetts before returning to her native state of Georgia. She lived in Augusta since 1960. She enjoyed an active social life, including ballroom dancing, playing bridge and tennis. She worked primarily in medical offices in Augusta before retiring at the age of 88 from Dr. A. Chandler’s office. On the occasion of her 100th birthday, the Mayor of Augusta proclaimed it Sanya Harris Tannen Day in the city. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to so many. All who knew her loved her, because they found her to be such caring and engaging individual.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tannen is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Edward Tannen; and her older brother Melvin Harris. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Jarrett of Augusta, GA; son, Jay Tannon and wife Annamaria Konya Tannon of Washington DC; grandchildren, Stephen Jarrett of Raleigh and spouse Carina Alberelli, NC, Katherine and spouse William of Chicago, IL; Annamaria Toth Konya Tannon of Washington, DC; and great-grandchildren, Mateo and Caroline.
A graveside service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Westover Memorial Park with Rabbi Sirull officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choosing to honor the life of Mrs. Tannen. If you do not have a charity of your choice, please donate to American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or The Adas Yeshurun Synagogue.
