

Augusta, Georgia – Command Sergeant Major (Ret) Scotty Ray Smith, beloved husband of Betty Sherrer Smith, entered into rest Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Eisenhower Hospital, Fort Gordon, Georgia. CSM Smith is predeceased by his father and mother, George Harper and Dorothy Richardson Smith and brother, Joe Lee Smith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Thomas Darryl Smith, Lubbock, Texas, and Dallas Richardson (Melissa) Smith, Martinez, Georgia, granddaughter, Emelia Noel Smith.
Other relatives include nephew, John Landry (Samantha) Smith, Mililani, Hawaii, and great-nieces, Jessica-Marie Sielken and Chloe-Lynn Smith, sister-in-law, Norma Combs, niece, Krista LaRussa, nephew, Todd Combs, brother-in-law, Allen Sherrer, Lutz, Florida, and nephews, Alex and Austin Sherrer.
CSM Smith retired from the U.S. Army with 32 years of service. After his retirement, he became Director of Safety and Security at Georgia Regents University. He continued his military passion by serving with the Wounded Warriors Project.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 1, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Elliott Sons Funeral Home – Columbia Road Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Westover Memorial Park.
