Virginia Shipp Hicks

Virginia was born in Augusta to James and Frankie Shipp on August 25, 1944. She was a proud graduate of Richmond Academy and Augusta College. She married Frankie W. Hicks Jr. on June 19, 1971. Ms. Hicks was a 5th grade teacher at John Milledge Elementary from 1966-1971. Later she worked as a Columbia County bus driver then as the crossing guard at Bel Air Elementary. Working with children through education was strong in her blood but her most important job title was that of Mom. Virginia was an active member of Martinez Chapter #464, Order of the Eastern Star and Unity Court #21, Order of the Amaranth.

Virginia is preceded in death by her father, mother, sister (Linda), husband and son-in-law (Javier).

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Briceño; son, Frank Hicks (Mayra); brother, James Shipp (Victoria); her grandchildren, Francisco Briceño and Katie Briceño; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11am at Westview Cemetery in Augusta, GA. The family will receive friend on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 6-8pm at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Columbia Road.
